Marianne Houff grew up in Bethel, PA at Camp Swatara. She began singing and playing chimes and handbells as a young child at Palmyra Church of the Brethren. In elementary school she began learning the flute and continued to play in bands through college. In 2011, Marianne received a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Music from Bridgewater College where she was a member of the Chorale, Concert Choir, Symphonic Band and conducted the Handbell choir for two years. She enjoyed being a member of Bridgewater Student Movement, New Community Project, and the Thursday Chapel Services.
She taught elementary general music classes for 5 years in Shenandoah County and is now the music specialist at John Wayland Elementary School in Rockingham County. She enjoys being a member of “Valley 7”, a chamber ensemble that sings classical music around Harrisonburg. She is thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the young musicians of the church. It has been her dream to work with young children, especially in a church setting, since her formative years in Carol and Cherub choir as a child. In honor of Mrs. Barbara Rhine, she named the Bridgewater Choirs after her choirs growing up. (photo by Lisa Houff Photography ©2015)
